desaturated colors

Hi Mike,


In Lab 64 bits.  When I have to really crank the white side of an image, lets say to 33%  and up of the x axis, the colors desaturate completely and I cant boost them with the gamma feature.

There can be a number of causes of this.  The main one is mathematical - if the colors are brighter, then it is not possible to saturate them beyond a certain point without changing the hue. 

Lab, alone among the color spaces, will attempt to give a significant hue and saturation to a color at near maximum brightness, but it is nowhere near as saturated as a true painter's color would be.

The solution is to make the color somewhat darker, using perhaps a Lightness or inverted K mask, and then increase the saturation.

BTW - I hope that the pin problem that you mentioned some time ago is no longer occurring on your system.
