Everyone,
I have asked Steve Jordan to look over the materials as well as all of you.

Please welcome him to the group and please also tolerate his catching up to you...

Thanks Greg, I hope.  I do have a little concern.  I will read up and try to contribute.

Welcome Steve, though you feel rather like an old friend than a new member ;D

Thanks, Ganna.  I am figuring how to get caught up.  I looked at the first two weeks.  Really, skimmed to see how far behind.  The production values or format looks good. Greg has spent some time on this and I can see why it has taken a while to do.  More later.  Looks great.

I am enjoying it so far.  I assume the class is aimed at CM 101 grads who are proficient at PS.  It probably is not a photoshop class, as no special advanced selections or instructions.

I had an idea for CM or PS.  When you soft proof, PS can show the out of gamut areas in zebras or false colors.  It is generally over saturated color.  How about out of gamut face tones?  Or out of gamut greenery?  Skies?

Steve there is a Saturation threshold built into the Saturation channel of HSB.  Are you concerned that you are going to far with saturation?
The Saturation threshold works like a shadow and highlight threshold.

It shows you where the saturation is zero and 100  quite easily.  Try it out.

More like color correction.  There are natural colors.  Grass. Blue sky.  If the skin were an unnatural skin color, the color proof would show it.  Just a crazy idea.

When I soft proof, photoshop compares my colors to the acceptable gamut of the paper.  When I did the fake artichoke, I intentionally made it out of gamut of the natural colors.  Admittedly the flower breeders can go crazy, but the landscape photographer has a limited gamut.  Of course, sunsets and sunrises are out of gamut.  Would it be helpful to the student to click and see if the grass and rocks "make sense"?  After staring at an image I become used to the colors even  if I am wrong.  (Part of 201).  I had a nice portrait of a couple in front of a skyline.  I worked hard to get the faces in the shadows and the skyline fixed.  I was kinda proud.  I showed my wife and "ewww what a bad photo."  The hair was wrong.  A little mask and a curve and great photo.  Just one wrong detail can screw up a good image.

Sorry for the rambling.

Not at all...
It's a good suggestion we just have to come up with a better way to implement it.  Trouble is there are so many ways to represent skin tones.
