I clicked on invert mask, then clicked again (can't think why, maybe it seemed like first one didn't work). CM3 closed & returned to PS, saving changes. Thought at first it was a crash..... but on closer inspection, what's happening is that after clicking on invert-mask, mouse jumps to Apply button!

Some mouse and touchpad drivers have an option to jump to the OK button for certain mouse gestures - for example when you click on the bottom corner of the mouse pad. Could that be it?

you could well be on to it - I do have the (microsoft) mouse driver set to automatically move to default button in a dialogue. but that only seems to happen when I click on the invert-mask button.
