So far no joy on the XP install.
I'm going to un-install and run a reg cleaner and see if i can get it to install clean.
Greg
Curvemeister 3.0.18 is available
Ok...
Tried to install 3.0.18 on the XP SP3 system after 3.0.12 ran successfully...
It failed with the same error message as posted above.
I have installed the VC runtimes and still no success. I'm going to un-install the 3.018 again and re-install it without 3.0.12 on the system we'll see what happens to a fresh install then...

So...Finally.....
I un-installed the 3.0.12 build using add/remove programs. I then installed the 3.0.18 build. Everything seems to work so far.
So to review my process....
To install 3.0.18 on my XP SP3 system...I had to follow the procedure listed below....
Any other combination caused the failure listed above.

Ganna,
With CS4 the Adobe People created a problem with the plug-ins folder as far as I can tell. The rights to the folder prevent the 8BF from getting copied to the correct folder.
Search your hard drive for Curvemeister.8BF and see if you have multiple copies.
I think it's a variation of the other problem listed in this thread. Last night, on my Win7 PC I had to take ownership of the folders under CS4 in order to copy a different file into the folders. Default Folder security set by Adobe during install is set to prevent files being added to the folders. I think CS4 is doing the same to CM's installer.
3.0.12 would blow up if the dll's are wrong. They might be wrong if the 3.0.18 install succeeds except for the 8BF file getting placed correctly. Then you would have the 3.0.12 8BF trying to run using the Dll's from 3.0.18.
If you have 2 copies of the 8BF file copy the newer one into the CS4 folder where it belongs and re-try.

Thanks Greg. The problem occurs during installation of versien 18 (and 15). Goes to 98% and then give the error code I wrote above earlier. The Curvemeister3.8bf file is in the right place, only the one copy, but CS4 doesn't seem to recognize it. In other words, when version 15 or 18 is installed and you look under "files" in CS4, CM is not there. When re install version 12 it seems to be OK. Hope this make sense.
Kind regards

Mike & Greg:
A month ago I loaded the 64bit Curvemeister beta on a Windows 7 OS as a plug-in to PS CS4 (yes Greg, if you are reading this, I finally replaced my old tired dinosaur of a computer) and while I didn't have much time to use it because of the holidays, it seemed to be working just fine. However, I tried to use it today and received a message which indicates that the beta has expired. In researching this problem, I came across this thread.
From what I can gather, there is a new version of 32 bit CM. And this has prompted some questions:
(1) Was it intentional to expire the 64bit beta or inadvertant?
(2) Should I attempt to reinstall the 64 bit beta?
(3) If so, is the latest and greatest version of the 64 bit Curvemeister beta 3.0.16?
(4) Given the problems identified in this thread, do you recommend that I wait a little bit to download the 64bit beta and/or the new 32 bit version until some of the install bugs have been ironed out?
Thanks and Happy New Year,
Brian
