!@#$%^&*() CAPSLOCK!

Found a useful program you'd like to share with others? Commercial announcements are fine, but please keep it brief.

Every time I upgrade to a new computer, it takes me a month or two to get fed up with the capslock key.  Then I figure out how to get rid of it.  My old standby, anticapslock, appears to be defunct.

Here are two alternatives I'm experimenting with:

http://www.colemak.com/ - Looks promising, but after installation I could not find it, and it defaults to NOT change the caps lock key.  Go figure.  The separate utility
or
http://pkl.sourceforge.net/ - Again looks promising, (and may in fact be the same program as colemak) but I found this program to be confusing to use and could not get it to work.  I would be interested in what others have to say about it.

So far, my simplest procedure is to install one of the .reg files, and reboot, to turn the capslock key into a backspace key.  The link for that procedure is here:
http://colemak.com/Registry_remapping

For those who want to keep things simple, I'm attaching the capslock->backspace reg file to this message.  To use it, double click on it, say OK to the resulting string of dialogs, and restart your system.

Ah, for the good old days of anticapslock, which simply installed and worked.

I just saw this thread and I just finished commenting on this very thing in another forum.  With so  many complaints about the Caps lock key, why don't keyboard manufacturers move the Caps lock key from it's present location to the empty space between the F1 key and the ESC key?  It would save so much aggravation.

This keyboard I'm using now just arrived Monday.  I wanted a new keyboard to go with this new computer since I didn't like the keyboard that Dell sent me.  I never knew that buying a new keyboard required so much research.  Now that I understand a bit more, I opted to get a XArmor U9BL mechanical keyboard, since it uses Cherry MX Blue keys.  They make a U9BL-S that uses Cherry MX Brown keys, but I wanted keys that "clicked" when you hit them, so I went for the Cherry MX Blue keys. (I had no idea what all of that meant last week.)  Oh, and the keyboard is backlit....nice for me since this room is usually on the dark side.  The backlight is what made me notice the gap between the F1 key and the ESC key, since there wasn't any light in that area when the keyboard is lit up.
