Free (for now) screen and video capture utility

Found a useful program you'd like to share with others? Commercial announcements are fine, but please keep it brief.

I just came across one of the more delightful free programs I've ever found.  It's called Jing and it will do fast screen and video captures, and save them in a variety of ways, including uploading videos to a free screencast.com account, and still images to flickr and other online image.

Download - Mac and PC.

http://www.jingproject.com/

It's intended as a quick way to capture video and share it with others.  One way of using it is to capture the video or image and upload it to a hosting account.  The URL of the video is left in the clipboard, and you can paste it to your email.  Or you can save the video file as a swf to your hard drive and use it any way you would like, such as on a web page.

Here's one I did just now, showing how I attached an image of an American athlete to this post.

Use it for fun one-off videos, for example when emailing to friends, or posting a question or bug example to this forum.  The catch is it might all disappear in a puff of smoke whenever this project is over.  So don't use it for stuff that really matters.

Mike,

indeed nice.
I remeber me, that i have seen this before, but never used it.
I have Snagit and can take video's in .avi format.  After that i can convert it to .wmv file, but not with snagit.
you need dotnet-framework version 3.0
I have noticed that the older versions of dotnetfixframwork stay on the harddisk.
So they are also used.
I think ,  i stay with Snagit. I have payed herefore and i think it can more then Jing. Or not ?

Jing is a lot of fun - I think you'd enjoy it.  particularly the video feature, which is so easy to use.

Now , i think I will jing give it a try.
i am wrong. Installing gives problems.
Jing_setup does automatically download dotnetfx3 and install it.
I could be true, but that installation of dotnetfx gives problems.
I had to ctrl alt Del to break the process.  I t did not vanish itself.
So i deleted all with Ashampoo installer en downloaded the dotnetfx 3.0 myself ( 50 MB)
The same problem occurs.
So , it s a pitty.

I had a bit of a glitch with .NET 3.0 but it worked the second time.  No crash as in your case, though.  I'm not sure what to suggest.

going on with Snagit!!

I understand the meaning of this all.  I read  a little bit about Jing.
Like we do a e-mail, or making attachments pictures, you can also make a video.
I do this also, a little to big , a avi file, that i must first convert in a smaller .wmv file. ( 1: 6 till 1: 22)
Jing does this, I think on a smaller basis, but  the nicest thing they gave a part of a server as a room to temperarely save your video-mail.
You can use this in the exchange with the CM students.
Time will learns or it is used more or less.

p.s. the header of the error , said there is no disk!
Strange ?
