Here is my first attempt with the Wacom Bamboo and an old Black and White image.
This is my Father when he was 20. He is now 80...
This took a little over an hour and 8 Layers with various maskings and shadings done on each layer. I know as I go further into this it will get more complex. I used existing Color images and pictures of my father for the skin tones and uniform colors.
My experience with the Bamboo was mostly Positive but some of the controls were annoying at first.

Looks like you're off to a good start!
Will be interested to hear how you did it..

Giving you points! Well done
Re: Colorized #1
This looks amazingly realistic! It will be very interesting to hear how it was done.
I'm wondering about the colour of the wall though - are any walls ever that colour?

O yes, walls were that colour back then. Very bright yellow and blue was in as well.

I continue to work on the face...does the red-ish hue look better
My son also objected to the wall color so I toned it down a bit.

The skin colour is better. The wall is not a problem for me
Re: Colorized #1
The skin colour is very realistic now - almost more realistic than a normal photo!
Re: Colorized #1
On my monitor his skin colour is too red -- in CM, the hue clock also is right on red.
But others see it as realistic. Hmm, not sure about this

I know Art.
I think the green wall and the blue are fooling the eyes. I have to look at this more.
I did not make the whole face red I added reds to certain areas and blended them like you see in the crease of the nose or ear lobes.
