I have the same problem with my D70 and I have found that the colours, esp the sky, change quite a bit depending on the exposure.  Try bracketing +/- 1ev and you should notice the difference.

My D70 is quite old and once in a blue moon the colours are really crazy even within a burst of shots (I normally aways take 3 as it cost nothing!).  You could go mad and go for a service, although I tried that when I got the camera (2nd hand) and it did not really cure anything.

These days I take a lot of tripod shots and then layer them and nick the best parts from the bracketed shots - thus one gets the best of all worlds.

Luckily you can now just curve it away, even if you have to use a mask!!
