I continue to work on the face...does the red-ish hue look better
My son also objected to the wall color so I toned it down a bit.

Colorized #1
Here is my first attempt with the Wacom Bamboo and an old Black and White image. This is my Father when he was 20. He is now 80... This took a little over an hour and 8 Layers with various maskings and shadings done on each layer. I know as I go further into this it will get more complex. I used exi...

Re: A small question
These should be corrected.
The CMYK language was certainly confusing...sorry about that sometimes we get lazy when we write.

Re: The Boat
Overall color is quite good. On my monitor it looks a bit heavy but if it looks right on you monitor leave it be.
Heavy being too dark.

RE: Merry Go Round image:
Yes...It is still a bit too dark. Again, in this image if you work out the color in RGB and the tonal range in LAB with a saturation boost you will find better results. I would call you current version flat. It needs better highlights and snappier colors.

re: The Boat... Overall it is still too blue. See screen shot attached. For your first swing at this you have come a long ways. poke it a bit more and see if you can get it. Some things to note about this image: There is more shadow detail in the wheel house you can find. There is highlight detail i...

Re: Assignment 1, example 5
You are correct with the brightness issue blowing out the details. The idea is to make it as bright as possible and hold those details. You did that very well. There are some advanced techniques we could use to help us with that including a mask but that is for a later lesson.

Re: Assignment 1, examples 7 & 8
Tildy, It is always a tug-o-war over how much adjustment you have in the curves. There are always trades to get a good result. While the curve is elastic in that you can push it around you find out very quickly how much "rope" you actually have. We use a simple image like these so that you...

Re: Assignment 1, example 6
Tildy, Good job on this overall. You could probably open the mid-tones again just a touch. This is one of the last things I look at before I click apply in CM. I ask myself does the image fit the lighting and mood? Can I make it better? If it is yes and you are in RGB apply your change and then go b...
