I really love the quality of the b/w on the first one. Something about the whites is exactly right. How did you do the b/w?

For me the whole photo is about the empty white (square) frame at the back...

Regarding the purple image, I read the guidelines and it doesn't actually say much about how to judge in the creative/abstract category, except for one clue: the image is viewed as 'an exercise in composition'. Martin, your photos are amazing as always. I would suggest only one thing: on the last one you posted, the shot of the pass, the white frame is really distracting -- partly because one side of the photo is light and one is dark, so the white frame looks larger on the dark side and disappears on the ...

Some of the light in these shots feels artificial. Martin, did you 'create' the light, or was it what the camera saw? If the former, I'd be interested in how you did it.

I love the bushveld and its trees too! :D You live in such a beautiful place, and you always manage to capture it very sensitively where it might, through someone else's lens, be 'cheesy'. Maybe, as Julie says, it's the light...?
